【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusedtoassessinsitustrengthofundisturbedsoilandcompactedmaterials(orboth).Thepenetrationrateofthe8-kg[17.6-lb]DCPcanbeusedtoestimatein-situCBR(CaliforniaBearingRatio),toidentifystratathickness,shearstrengthofstrata,andothermaterialcharacteristics.OthertestmethodsexistforDCPswithdifferenthammerweightsandconetipsizes,whichhavecorrelationsthatareuniquetotheinstrument.The8-kg[17.6-lb]DCPisheldverticallyandthereforeistypicallyusedinhorizontalconstructionapplications,suchaspavementsandfloorslabs.Thisinstrumentistypicallyusedtoassessmaterialpropertiesdowntoadepthof1000mm[39in.]belowthesurface.Thepenetrationdepthcanbeincreasedusingdriverodextensions.However,ifdriverodextensionsareused,careshouldbetakenwhenusingcorrelationstoestimateotherparameterssincethesecorrelationsareonlyappropriateforspecificDCPconfigurations.Themassandinertiaofthedevicewillchangeandskinfrictionalongdriverodextensionswilloccur.The8-kg[17.6-lb]DCPcanbeusedtoestimatethestrengthcharacteristicsoffine-andcoarse-grainedsoils,granularconstructionmaterialsandweakstabilizedormodifiedmaterials.The8-kg[17.6-lb]DCPcannotbeusedinhighlystabilizedorcementedmaterialsorforgranularmaterialscontainingalargepercentageofaggregatesgreaterthan50mm[2in.].The8-kg[17.6-lb]DCPcanbeusedtoestimatethestrengthofinsitumaterialsunderlyingaboundorhighlystabilizedlayerbyfirstdrillingorcoringanaccesshole.Note18212;TheDCPmaybeusedtoassessthedensityofafairlyuniformmaterialbyrelatingdensitytopenetrationrateonthesamematerial.Inthiswayundercompactedorx201C;softspotsx201D;canbeidentified,eventhoughtheDCPdoesnotmeasuredensitydirectly.AfieldDCPmeasurementresultsinafieldorinsituCBRandwillnotnormallycorrelatewiththelaboratoryorsoakedCBRofthesamematerial.Thetestisthusintendedtoevaluatetheinsitustrengthofamaterialunderexistingfieldconditions.1.1ThistestmethodcoversthemeasurementofthepenetrationrateoftheDynamicConePenetrometerwithan8-kg[17.6-lb]hammer(8-kg[17.6-lb]DCP)throughundisturbedsoilorcompactedmaterials,orboth.ThepenetrationratemayberelatedtoinsitustrengthsuchasanestimatedinsituCBR(CaliforniaBearingRatio).Asoildensitymaybeestimated(Note1)ifthesoiltypeandmoisturecontentareknown.TheDCPdescribedinthistestmethodistypicallyusedforpavementapplications.1.2Thetestmethodprovidesforanoptional4.6-kg[10.1-lb]slidinghammerwhentheuseofthe8-kg[17.6-lb]slidingmassproducesexcessivepenetrationinsoftgroundconditions.1.3ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
